Group Fitness Instructor Certification Course
Calling all aspiring group fitness instructors!
Kelea Foundation is partnering with long time community fitness and recreation company, Glad Life Inc to train new group fitness instructors. During the course, participants will learn from experts in the field, getting both hands-on and practical experience in teaching as well as industry and job insights. Participants will gain important knowledge on inclusion and accessibility in fitness classes and leave with real life resources to help them in their own businesses. By the end of the learning program, participants will qualify to take the Athletics and Fitness Association of America Group Fitness Instruction certification test. Participants will also be given the opportunity to intern with Kelea Foundation and our partners with high potential for being hired for teaching jobs right out of the program.
Our goal in hosting this program is to build a team of diverse community members who are passionate about leading others in group exercise and recreational opportunities. Course Materials, including the AFAA book and online resources
Weekly instruction and mentoring
Networking and hands on experience teaching in diverse environments
Certification Course Test for those who complete the course

July 7th to August 8th
Class meets every Mon & Wed from 5pm to 8pm
Location: Kelea HQ- 111 Hana Hwy #111 Kahului, Hi 96732
Some classes may be virtual
Internship hours will vary, including some early morning classes. We will work with your schedule to accommodate internship and practical hours

Working with diverse body and mobility types
Designing programming for diverse groups
Learning how to support and build community through movement classes
How to adapt movement to each individual, even in a group setting
Class formats you can use right away in any setting
Course Work:
Professionalism & the business of exercise
Class design, planning and instruction methods
Basics of exercise science
AFAA course materials
Certification test prep

Participant Expectations:
This course has only 5 spots available. Our goal is to build a team of instructors that can help support Kelea programming and who are interested in working with our community partners as instructors. Those accepted into the program are expected to attend all class dates and participate in hands-on internship opportunities. After course completion, those who complete the course will be given a code to take the AFAA certification test.
